Are you trying to go Natural, yet can’t stand those gray hairs that sneak up on you? Instead of coloring your hair, you may want to try Henna powder. This is a natural alternative to chemical hair dyes. It comes from the leaves of North African shrubs. You will want to make sure that they are grown 100% organically. You don’t want to add pesticides to your hair, right? Look for henna that is free of PPD (p-Phenylenediamine is a chemical often found in black henna sold in the tattoo industry). Henna comes in many colors and you can customize it by combining different colors of henna powder. Add an egg for extra conditioning or add essential oils. You may not like the smell of henna and that is why I would recommend using essenital oils. For my dark hair, I mix my henna with strong coffee or black tea. To cover gray, you add 2 T of apple cider vinegar. Next, you mix it up and it begins to look like mud.
How it works: Henna covers each strand of hair. The shade of Henna is reflected through the hair while enhancing your hair’s natural color. The gray hairs will look more like you have natural highlights. You can also use Neutral henna as a wonderful natural conditioner . The hair’s cuticle is smoothened by the Henna’s sealing action, giving hair a natural healthy glow. Because the hair’s cuticle is tight and flattened, the hair is protected from atmospheric conditions such as sun damage. Using Henna will add texture to your hair, giving it more body and the longer you use it on your hair, the more evident the changes will be. I have been using henna for over a year now and loving it. I don’t like using chemicals and since discovering henna, I can now color my hair, the natural way!
Here are my latest results from using Black Henna at 3 oz and Sherry at 1 oz.. I use Henna every 6 weeks. At 4 weeks it was looking like light highlights and then by 6 weeks I needed to get rid of the gray. Wrap your hair in plastic wrap and cover with a towel. Leave it on your hair for 90 minutes and then rinse and wash. Voila! New shiny hair and no gray! I purchase all my henna, from Henna Color Labs.
